Martin Oei at the Concertgebouw: A Journey Through the Russian Piano School
On Sunday, 20 September 2026, pianist and Scriabin Club contact Martin Oei will give a recital in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Under the title A Journey Through the Russian Piano School – from Balakirev to Stravinsky, he brings together music by Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Balakirev and Stravinsky.
Scriabin holds a particular place in the programme. Oei opens with two Études from Op. 8 and returns to the composer after the interval with the Deux Poèmes, Op. 32. Within a single recital, this offers a glimpse of Scriabin’s development: from his Romantic roots towards the more personal, colourful and mystical sound world of his later music.
For Oei, the programme also explores the broader significance of the Russian piano school and the resilience he finds in these very different composers. He recently wrote about his personal connection with this repertoire in a blog post on his website.
The concert takes place on 20 September 2026, from 14:15 to 16:15, in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw. Further information about the programme and tickets can be found on the Concertgebouw website.
