Essential information about the Scriabin Club
Why the Scriabin Club exists
The Scriabin Club was founded out of the conviction that Scriabin’s music and ideas embody a rare combination of artistic audacity, intellectual depth, and creative responsibility — qualities that remain urgently relevant today.
In a cultural landscape often shaped by specialization and fragmentation, the Club exists to foster bold thinking, imaginative engagement, and serious dialogue. It treats artistic practice and reflection not as ends in themselves, but as forces capable of deepening understanding and contributing to human betterment.
Who the Scriabin Club is for
The Scriabin Club is open to everyone. While Scriabin’s music is not universally familiar or immediately accessible, the Club welcomes both dedicated enthusiasts and experienced professionals.
It is a place to discover Scriabin, to deepen existing engagement, to exchange ideas, and to develop new artistic and intellectual projects together.
Values and orientation
The Scriabin Club is guided by a commitment to openness, by a serious engagement with beauty as a cultural force, and by the belief that art and thought can contribute to individual and collective betterment. These values shape the Club’s activities, collaborations, and long-term direction.
Structure and sustainability
The Scriabin Club is an independent initiative and non-profit in spirit. Its activities are sustained through member contributions, donations and patronage, occasional subsidies, and selected concert proceeds. This structure allows the Club to remain open, autonomous, and focused on its artistic and educational mission.
Our approach to Scriabin
The Scriabin Club takes a dual approach to Scriabin’s legacy. We actively preserve, study, and promote his music, while also engaging with his ideas as a living framework for contemporary artistic and philosophical inquiry.
This distinguishes the Club from traditional composer societies: Scriabin is not treated solely as an object of historical study, but as a catalyst for present-day thought, creativity, and experimentation.
Who is behind the Scriabin Club
The Scriabin Club is an independent, international initiative founded in November 2020 by pianist and music educator Martin Kaptein in the Netherlands.
What began as a small initiative in the Netherlands and Germany has since grown into a global network connecting performers, researchers, educators, and listeners from around the world. The Club stands in continuity with earlier European Scriabin initiatives (specifically the European Scriabin Society), building on a legacy that reaches back several decades.
Looking ahead
The Scriabin Club continues to evolve. Alongside its current activities, it aims to develop into a global platform for conferences, festivals, publications, and long-term collaborations — fostering an international movement dedicated to understanding, creativity, and beauty through music and thought.
